Rediscover the Heart of the American Plains
Watch the powerful journey of the buffalo and the people who
fought to save it. See how their legacy shapes the land today.
Over 30 million buffalo once roamed North America’s Great Plains. Now, after more than 100 years, and near-extinction due to habitat loss and human impact, efforts to restore them are gaining momentum, led by Tribal initiatives.
“A Buffalo Story” follows Jason Baldes, Eastern Shoshone Tribe Member and National Wildlife Federation’s Tribal Buffalo Program Director, as he works to reintroduce buffalo to the Shoshone and Arapaho Tribes of the Wind River Reservation.
This film showcases the restoration of buffalo ecosystems, offering lessons on rebuilding relationships between humans, wildlife, and nature.
